ROM11,-del4

The three artists working together with projects treating issues concerning Gypsy traditions, life and conditions, are Adriana Alves, Bjørg Taranger and Katrine Meisfjord. The group is called BAKROM, and the projects this year are called ROM11.

During the seminar about east European gypsies arranged by Bergen Municipality, one of the gypsy women we had invited to the seminar asked the politicians: why isn’t it possible for us to get a proper job in Bergen?
The local newspaper BA was present, and took time to interview the women after the seminar about their working conditions as beggars. The article the next day led to a women calling Katrine, offering the women jobs in the apartement building were she lived. These were apartments for elderly people.

We arranged a meeting between four gypsy women periodically working as beggars in Bergen and the women who wanted to facilitate alternative jobs for them, in the studio of Bjørg and Katrine in C. Sundtgt.55. The local newspaper BA came and wrote yet another article on the matter, as well as TV2. TV2 has treated the matter of the conditions and life of Rumanian gypsies earlier, and were interested in documenting the various projects realized by BAKROM.
